about.

hi! my name is cara jane brister and that handsome man is my husband, chris.

i grew up in longview, texas, attended auburn university (war eagle), then truett seminary (at baylor university -- sic 'em bears). if i could've been a professional student, i would've been.

chris and i met through mutual friends at seminary, dated long-distance for a year and a half, then sealed the deal on october 1, 2011. we moved to norman, oklahoma, where we're doing the bivocational ministry thing, helping plant a new church, providence road communities

my dad died very unexpectedly in february of 2007, so i started this blog in 2008 as the one-year anniversary of his death was approaching. my reasoning was two-fold: 1) i'm a verbal processor, so writing was incredibly healing for me -- i was sick of talking about it and i was convinced my friends were sick of listening. 2) reading another girl's blog about her grief process had been super helpful for me in my journey, so i was hoping my blog could be that for someone else.

while it's become less grief-focused over the years, it remains a place for me to process my honest thoughts -- sometimes still on grief (let's face it -- it never fully goes away), but also on mission, god, marriage, and life in general. beware: there may be lots of rambling, and i can't promise i'm not a hot mess at times. you've been warned.

thanks for reading. i'd love to hear from you -- leave a comment or find me on twitter (@cjbrister). i hope and pray you leave encouraged.
